On the First Day of Christmas


The Twelve Days of Christmas
"On the first day of Christmas, my true love sent to me
A partridge in a pear tree. "
The twelve days of Christmas represent the twelve days between Christmas and Epiphany. The song is a very old one and each verse probably has religeous significance.
The single partridge has been said to represent God or Christ himself as the first day is of course, Christmas Day.
